Mini Saltine Crackers: I prefer making this snack with the mini version of saltines and not the regular size that come in sleeves. On their own, I just like the way the minis taste better. If you can’t find them, full size are fine or sub in another small cracker such as oyster.

Unsalted butter that’s been melted is how all the lovely dill spice mixture sticks to the crackers and bakes them into an even crispier treat.

I recommend unsalted butter since the ranch seasoning mix and saltines already have plenty of salt (I speak the obvious). If salted butter is all you have, it’s fine to use. A full stick only has about 1/4 teaspoon of salt anyway.

Dill pickle juice from a jar of dill pickles is what we’re going for. Other types may be too sweet.

Dried dill adds intense dill flavor and provides those little green flecks that make the crackers look so tasty.

Garlic powder for the win. Fresh doesn’t work in this recipe.

Ranch seasoning mix is the backbone of the spice mixture we’re going to coat the crackers in. I get the regular flavor but if you like things hot, try the spicy variety.

This recipe seasons a single box of mini saltines (11 oz). Make note, you only need half of packet of ranch seasoning. Save the rest for another batch later!

Time-Saving Tip: I make multiple batches of dill pickle crackers during the fall and winter months when football-watching and soup-eating are on the regular. To save time in the kitchen, prep pre-measured baggies of the dry seasonings ahead of time. Then all you have to do is add dill pickle juice and melted butter.

Can I Make Dill Pickle Saltines with Olive Oil

You sure can. Olive oil makes these seasoned crackers even more savory.

Olive oil is high in unsaturated fat (the good kind) so it’s healthier than butter (saturated fat). But this recipe is for crackers so I’m not going to extol any health benefits.

Use 1/2 cup olive oil in place of butter.
